new york wedding photography ~ kristy and james

Friday, was the wedding of Kristy and James.  James is a lieutenant in the army.  I wasn’t quite sure what branch of the armed forces he was in as his uniform threw me.  I had thought that the army always wore green.  Rich and I were guessing Marines, but upon asking Kristy, we found we were wrong.  Upon some further research I found out what has occurred and that I hadn’t been completely wrong as they used to wear green.   But, they now have a blue uniform.  It was issued to new soldiers starting in the fall 2010.  It will be based on the current dress uniform known as the “dress blue” uniform.  It has its roots in the historical “Army Blue” uniform, which dates back to the Revolutionary War, in which the Continental Army outfitted its soldiers in blue to distinguish them from the red uniform coats that British Army personnel wore in their uniforms of the time.  It also recalls the Civil War Union Army’s blue uniforms.  And, I have to say, I like the reasoning behind it.  A man in a uniform can always get the girl, LOL.  Who doesn’t forget the movie “An Officer and a Gentleman” back in 1982 with Richard Gere?  Every woman who saw it, was swooning, LOL.  Well, enough of that as their wedding was full of all the pomp and glory that one would expect of such an affair!  Get this, at the reception, he received a promotion from the army!  It was such an honor being able to be present for such an event.  James’ brother, Tyler who is also in the United States Army and is stationed somewhere else in the United States, wasn’t sure if he would even be able to get off to attend his brother’s wedding.  But, as fate would have it, he was granted a leave to not only attend, but, be his brother’s best man.  That just made their day.  But, I am getting ahead of myself…..so let’s back up a little, shall we?  The morning of the wedding, we met Kristy and her girls at their brand new condo in Patchogue.  Kristy is a school teacher in the Bellmore School District.  A ton of her students showed up for the ceremony which was a good 45 minutes away.  That just showed what kind of teacher she was, to have so many of them want to be present to witness their union.  There ceremony took place at the historic Congregational Church in Patchogue.  It is a beautiful, historic church with huge stained glass windows which help to flood the room with tons of sunlight.

James and Tyler waiting patiently in the sacristy of the church for Kristy to arrive.

Here are some of their fall themed wedding details……don’t you just love their invite?  So cute!

Our little flower girl, Isabella, wouldn’t walk down the aisle right prior to the ceremony starting.  Her mom and one of the bridesmaids, gave her a cookie as a prompting.  She was so cute, for a cookie, she would do anything, LOL….

Kristy and her dad, Michael, as he lead her down the aisle.  Michael was just beaming with happiness.  Right before they walked down the aisle, we waited anxiously for the music to start.  Michael was going on and on about things very excitedly and Kristy would say “dad, not so loud…..the people can hear you!”  It was too cute.

The gorgeous church…………..

Oops……what do you expect, it is a long ceremony for a little one!  hahahah……they have to occupy themselves doing something….

Loved the little smiles on their faces just before they kissed….so cute!

Well you knew we had to take one of Kristy in her hubby’s hat, didn’t ya?

I just loved the big rod iron hinges on the church doors…..

Our merry “bubble makers” did quite an effective job on a blustery day, if I must say so myself….

Then in a quick decision, we grabbed James and Kristy and took them into town for a few impromptu shots.  Loved the art deco theatre that was recently redone.  It was great for photos….with its colorful blue doors!

Then a fast stop at the public library in Patchogue…..we hadn’t gotten permission, didn’t even know we needed it, but with Kristy being a teacher and all the books, we thought it was be a great idea.  Rich stopped to ask and I snapped a few and before we knew it, we were on the move again.

And, just a few by the Rolls before we hopped in to get to our reception site for family and wedding party shots!

Their reception took place at The Hamlet Willow Creek Country Club up in Mt. Sinai.  It is such a pretty place and, at this time of the year when the sun sets rather quickly, and we arrived when it was dark, we did get to take a few shots on their deck overlooking the golf course.

James and the “guys” in the wedding party.  First we took one in formation…..

and then they wanted to do a “flying” one!  Too funny…..great planes you guys!

Our groom cozying up to the girls!

Then James told his brother to drop down and give him ten…..pretty good job, Tyler, I think I even saw a clap or two tucked in there!  HAHAHA

As our happy couple entered the ballroom, the other officers there in attendance, raised their swords to form an arch.  As they pass the first one, it drops only to be lifted by a kiss from our bride!

This is part of the ceremony in which James was promoted.  Here he is listening to the officer read what is happening.

The changing of his, and I could be wrong, shoulder board rank, I believe it is called….

They received a sword from one of the guys to cut their cake with…..

and James just had to take a lick, LOL….

Due to their schedules, they had to postpone their honeymoon for a little bit.  But that makes it nice, something to look forward to.  Thank you James and your brother, Tyler, for your dedication to our country and for making us all sleep a little bit safer at night.  We appreciate your service to our country.
