THE LOWDOWN:

Do you shoot film or digital? Hey, how about BOTH!  We started in film and then we went all digital and now back to both!  We brought our Canon F-1′s out of storage and back to life and have been using Richard Photo Labs for all our processing needs.  There is nothing that can compare to the warm colors and rich texture of film!

How many photographers make up Photography by Verdi?  Originally, it was just Mindi and Rich, but we got so darn crazy that we needed some more help.  Our daughter, Ashlyn, went to FIT in NYC for photography and now she is one of three other photographers that we employ on a full time basis.  She operates out of our New York studio as well as, our Arizona studio.  Our second photographer, Melissa, is Mindi’s cousin and works with us exclusively on our New York jobs.  She is a full time photographer in her own right who also operates a theme based photography studio in New York.  She has also come on board and joined our staff, making up the two complete teams of two photographers for the New York studio.  In Arizona, Rich often works with his best friend, Joe.  Joe graduated from the prestigious School of Visual Arts in NYC, as did Rich and they have been friends since the second grade.  Joe has worked in the photography business as well as, doing custom photo lab work for 20+ years.  He has won many awards for his photography and just had a gallery show in New York at the Brooklyn Museum with a follow up article to come in New York Magazine.  So there you have it, a family affair of sorts!  And, be aware, that when you hire Photography by Verdi, you are not simply getting a photographer and an assistant but TWO full fledged photographers on every team.  Each brings something new and unique to the table.  When we book a date for a wedding, you are always assured of getting at least one of us on the team, Mindi or Rich.  We make that decision based on who clicks with what couple, the specific location of the wedding, what’s been booked in a package  and a couple of other factors.  But, you can be assured, that you will always be receiving the Photography by Verdi signature touch and coloring that we have become so famous for, as Mindi’s oversees all the specifics on coloring of photos and takes care of all blog entries while Rich handles all downloads to DVD’s.

Can we be hired to shoot destination weddings? You betcha!  We love to shoot weddings and to travel to new and exotic locales!  We have shot in Scotland, Hawaii, Italy, Mexico and all over the United States.  We have two offices, one in New York and the other in Phoenix, Arizona, where we can be reached.  People always ask “hey why did you choose Arizona?”  Well the answer is simple.  Rich’s sister and mom used to live in New York but then moved to a bunch of places before settling in Scottsdale.  We would always go and visit them and fell in love with the sunny days, jagged mountains, red sunsets and the dry air.  So, in 2007, we bit the bullet and bought another house and opened up an office there.  It was perfect!  Being that it is too hot in the summer to shoot in Arizona with their 115 degree days and New York’s bleak, gray, cold days in the winter, it is the perfect mix, a ying and yang, if you will.  We always have our telephone forward the calls from one location to the other so we don’t miss you when you have a question or a concern.  A lot of couples book us via e-mail or over the phone even when we are not in their area, and then come and see us when we return.  That isn’t a problem and doesn’t hold up the process.  Plus, it assures you, that you are getting just who you want shooting your wedding, us, rather than waiting for us to return and thereby taking a chance that we will get booked.  But, if you want, you can also always e-mail us at info@fotoverdi.com.  Our phone numbers are 631-758-7912 in NY; 480-297-8990 in Phoenix; and 928-252-2908 in Sedona.

Even though you shoot a lot of funky stuff, do you still do the “posed” family shots? We get asked this question a lot.  And the answer is absolutely!  You can have as much posed family groups as you want or, as little as you want, you’re the boss!

What kind of albums do you offer? We are now offering our brand new, exquisite “Iris” album from the Cypress Album Company out in California.  We searched from all the manufacturers out there that photographers use and hands down, it is the best there is.  Seeing is believing.  It comes in a beautiful Belgian linen for all you vegans and green keepers out there, as well as, silk, and comes in a bunch of gorgeous colors.   And, just like all weddings are not the same, all album designs are not the same either!  While, some couples like all large photos, and others enjoy a mingling of smaller photos on a page, we feel our combination of large and small photos offer just the right approach to assembling an album you will love from the time you first lay your eyes on it to your fiftieth wedding anniversary.  We also, in addition to the Iris Album, offer press books, which are slimmer magazine style layouts.  They come in a variety of style covers and are less cumbersome than traditional style albums with mats and thicker pages.  For our modern clients, we also offer Graphi Albums that come with metal and plexiglass album covers.

Do I have to buy everything at once and can I customize a package? Of course you can customize a package, give us a call or drop us a line, we’d love to give you a quote!  Things can be added to packages both before and after the wedding.  We know once you see your photos in all their awesomeness, you will want to preserve them in an array of merchandise that we offer.  Our office hours are by appointment only.  We would love to meet with you at one of our two offices to discuss your wedding…..
